This past year I read 314 amazing books.
Since New Years is fast approaching let’s count down my favorite books from 2019.
# 14 The Dugout
Meghan Quinn Knocked this one out of the ball park! We meet Milly Potter who is the baseball wizard who eats, sleeps, and breathes baseball. She is shy and an awkward college student who only ever considered herself one of the guys. She meets Carson Stone and he not only was rude to her the first time they met but dismissed her the second! Carson is having a hard time getting back into the groove after a baseball injury. His goal is to get drafted but he could use all the help he can get to being 100% again. After Carson apologizes numerous times Milly agrees to help him out. Their relationship starts off as a slow burn and turns explosive. It was so easy to fall in love with them. Their love was tested with dark heavy moments but they were meant be. They are #relationshipgoals after all.
This is a stand-alone book but I’d recommend reading the other books in the series too. I read them all out of order and almost didn’t read Carson’s and Milly’s story. I’m so thankful I did because it ended up being one of my favorite 24 hour binge this year. If you want a swoon worthy, endearing, laugh out loud and a little emotional torture this is the book for you!
Nora Jacobs is an unidentified paranormal who has a unique set of psychic abilities. She has always attracted unwanted attention from men and some encounters have turned violent from denying them. She stayed clear from the underworld most of her life too but it only took one chance meeting with a vampire to pull her into the fold. She finds many allies along the way but just as many enemies. Each book is a new case she helps on while finding herself along the way. It’s a slow burn reverse harem. Nora friend zones most of her harem in the first book but as the series continues we (obviously Nora and I) developed feelings for each man that’s added. We gradually discover in each book who she is, what she is, and the extent of her powers.
Something I loved about the books are the relationship with each of Nora’s men. Jackie May made the focus on bond of friendship instead of the physical part. Sometimes sex can overpower a book. So, it was nice to see the bond happening without the involvement of sex. The only down side to the series is the wait between each book. We still don’t have a release date for book # 4 but I hope we get one soon!tory, key achievements, or an interesting fact.
#12 Rock Bottom Girl
Marley returned to her small home town broke, jobless, and single. She is forced to face her dreadful past when her mother forces her to get a job with the local high school soccer team. Marley will soon find out that this was the new direction her life needed but nothing comes easy. Marley ends up running into her old crush Jake during practice one day. Jake is the cross country team coach and history teacher. He may be immature and messy but he has one of the kindest heart. He is the best type of book boyfriend. He’s kind, thoughtful, and will help out Marley more then she ever thought.
This book is an all around feel good story with low drama. You will fall in love with every supporting character and even the enemies. One of my favorite things about the book is Jake is not an alpha businessy type. I don’t find that often in a romcom. The story line is engaging and it will make you reminisce your high school days. Have I mention that Jake also has a dog? I mean.. What’s hotter then a dog dad?
Erin was sold early in life to the Illuminati and was trained to be one of the best assassins and thieves. After finding out the appalling truth of the Illuminate she destroyed them. On the run from the very few still alive, she finds her self in a little town filled with different paranormal species. Trying to hide her past and while trying to navigate being on her own she finds a job being as bartender. Erin always finds herself in the middle of danger while trying to right her past wrongs. Throughout the entire series we see her trying to learn how to be apart of civilization, making friends, trying to find love, and understanding the politics of the paranormal world. This book has a lot of action that will keep you well entertained and wanting to keep turning each page.
I loved that it was a strong female lead that really wanted to focus on herself. She may have had some romantic interests, but there were no steamy sex scenes. There are many funny moments while she’s trying to figure out how to be a normal functioning person. My favorite part is that there is no cliffhanger, while still remaining open ended. I found it to be a very well developed world and I wish the town was a real town so I could visit it! I did find out that book 4 “Well of Magic” came out earlier this month, but I have yet to read it. It is definitely on my MUST read list.
Cap is a wealthy, charismatic, and famous corporate lawyer who loves life. He’s the ultimate playboy and was never looking for “The One.” Then he meets the one who doesn’t fall for his act, Ruby. She’s smart, independent, and driven. Finding ruby a challenge he decides to peruse her.
From the first chapter I knew this book was going to be great and I was not disappointed. The plot was creative, endearing and heart tugging. This is one of those books that keeps you smiling all throughout the entire story. I was really laughing out loud in some scenes. Cap will have you swooning in no time. Sometimes it’s hard to fall in love with the play boy but Max Monroe did it! I would suggest this to anyone who wanted a good laugh, feel good book and a great romance.
# 9 Rage
Dawn was killed by her husband. She was buried in the forest by his minions. She soon wakes up and claws her way through the soil. She doesn’t understand what she is but she attracts the darkest oldest monsters. The monsters claim she is their fated mate but they will have to wait. Dawn must get revenge first.
I’ve never read a K.A. Knight book that I didn’t love. This book is no exception. I had this book on TBR list before it was even released. The plot is unique and had me hooked from the very beginning. It had multiple POV’s that take you on a crazy journey. It’s dark, raw, violent, steamy, and isn’t for the faint of heart. It kept me at the edge of my seat, and I honestly couldn’t put it down. This is one of those books that after you’re done reading , you just sit and digest everything you just read. It’s so much more than your average revenge story. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Be prepared, it does end on a cliffhanger.
As an infant, Bez was apart of a genetic experiment gone wrong. The experiment gave him persuasive abilities, making people into his puppets. His mother, who was fearful of him, hid him away from society. As an adult, Bez can have anything and everything he could ever want. He is an arrogant womanizer, and has absolutely no conscience. Then he meets Naomi, the only person he can’t control. Naomi is currently struggling with her life and is self medicating herself. She feels broken and finds nothing positive in life. When Naomi and Bez met there was an instant attraction, but she soon found out what true evil is. Bez is determined to have Naomi submit with her own free will.
This is a dark read with predictable, and unpredictable twists. It was a strange but fascinating story. It keeps you completely captivated while learning every detail of their traumatic lives. I wanted to sympathize with Bez and Naomi. They each suffered something horrendous to shape them. Naomi was extremely relatable and I wanted to hate Bez. Then Bez would do something so out of character that made me want to like him. Between their best and worst qualities, it made them the most imperfectly perfect match. Don’t expect a happy ending with this one.
# 7 Happy Cat Series
# 1 Hosed (Ryan and Cassy)
# 2 Hammered (Jace and Olivia)
# 3 Hitched (Blake and Hope)
# 4 Humbugged (Clint and Noelle)
Happy Cat is a little town in Georgia, and it’s a town crazy in all the best ways. Between dildo football, a raccoon who is always up to no good, and a possible bakery haunting, it keeps you on your toes. Each book follows a different O’Dell brother and can be read as standalones. They are fun and captivating stories and I was a sucker for each one. I waited months for each individual story. The quirky humor Pippa and Lili created in these books are genius. It’s a light-hearted read, and it’s completely kooky. This is the best way to make an bad day, so much better.
#6 Stupid Boys
Holly’s job is simple. Get them to trust her, have them fall in love, take what HE wants from them, and then disappear. Taking their hearts wasn’t supposed to be at a personal cost though. She wasn’t supposed to fall in love with any of them, the Athlete, the Politician, the Surgeon, and the Artist. Desperately trying to keep herself together and not killed, she comes face to face with all four of them.
This book was so well written! It was a great way to start a new trilogy. Holly is complex and a very compelling character. I’m usually not for antiheros but Holly really makes you like her. You can understand why she’s doing what she’s doing even when she doesn’t want too. Reading the men’s POV really pulled at my heart strings. Secret after secret you learn in the book keeps you wanting more. The story ends on one of the biggest cliffhangers I’ve read so far. Book 2 “Dumb Girl” comes out March 2020.
Ansel is an artist who lost his sight in a tragic accident. He was able to undergo a transplant surgery and become that famous artist once again. During one of his exhibits, he sees a women who looks just like his painting. Indy, who is struggling with life after the death of her fiancé, finds herself staring at a painting that looks just like herself. Ansel is convinced that Indy will be his new muse. Their connection was instant but when they find out why, will their relationship be able to handle it?
Max Monroe has a way with telling a story and this is one of those you don’t forget about after reading. It’s a love story that isn’t a fairy tale, but shows that fate always has plans. The pain and heartbreak kept tugging at my emotions. I’m pretty sure my eyes were watering through the whole read. The twists and turns of this story were definitely not predictable. I kept finding myself asking, “What’s next?” It was very well written and had a great concept. It is definitely a one sit read with a happily ever after.
Robin is a timid and quiet sorceress but she promised her mom she’d never use her magic. After Robin’s parents passed away she was sent away to her Uncles home. She’s sucked into her families illegal activities of the mythic world, while waiting for her inheritance. She used baked goods to form an unlikely bond with a demon, who is being held captive by her uncle. Their illegal bond has them on the run from dangerous people. Now she has to learn to blend in with other mythics, while trying to figure out how to befriend a demon.
This series was honestly a masterpiece. It was well written, and had fully developed characters. Annette Marie has one of my favorite writing styles. She normalizes magic. She creates mystery and suspense that brings you into her world. The humor is effortless, but has emotional impact. It’s an action packed fantasy adventure that I absolutely loved. This story can go so many different ways, and I can’t wait to find out where it takes us. This is a sister series to The Guild Codex: Spellbound series. It may not have found it’s way into my top 14, but it is definitely in my top 20!
# 3 She-Shifters of Hell’s Corner
- Alec (Carter and Alec)
- Wolf Detective (Denny and Raif)
- Wolf Soldier (Holt and Sonnie)
- Bear Outlaw (Charlie and Axel)
- Wolf Purebreed (Muddy and Lang)
- Best Lover (Luna and Jason)
This was such an amazing series, and I’ve always been a sucker for fated mates. It was an easy read, fun, steamy, and quite delightful. This collection follows a group of single women living in Helen’s Corner. It’s been rumored that magic was in the land, and sometimes that makes it seem like a crazy town. Every women has a unique personality and comes from different backgrounds that makes the series truly captivating. Each book tells a story of a strong women finding their fated mate. They all attempted, at some point, to try to run away from fate, but if it’s meant to happen, it will. They do face challenges, but they all end in a happily ever after. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I’d suggest reading every single one!
# 2 Bluewater Billionaire Series
- The Price Of Scandal by Lucy Score
- The Mogul and the Muscle by Claire Kingsley
- Wild Open Hearts by Kathryn Nolan
- Crazy for Loving You by Pippa Grant
These were some of the best books I’ve ever read. They are the best type of romantic comedy. It’s heartwarming, entertaining, well paced, a little bit of drama and has absolutely NO cliffhangers. The story’s follow a group of women who are friends. They each find themselves in a dilemma, and they aren’t afraid to do what they have to do to fix it. In the process, each women ends up meeting a man, who they needed to rely on. We see each struggle, and show that hard work pays off. It was refreshing seeing each story being told from an alpha female point of view. All the characters are written exceptionality and the plot was fascinating. There were even cameos from other books the authors wrote (you bet I read those afterwards too). They can be read as standalones but you will be pleasantly surprised how spectacular each story is.
# 1 Mindf*ck Series
Lana is dishing out revenge to every man who was there that horrifying day. She has taken the law in her own hands. Logan, an SSA agent, has been tasked to find a serial killer, and Lana happens to be that serial killer. They met. They’re falling in love. The lines of right and wrong start to blur. Will their secrets destroy them? Will Logan understand? Will Lana be able to finish her revenge list?
This became the series that I compare every book too. It has one of the best plot lines I’ve ever read. Each book gets better and better than the last. This series will play games with your mind. It is bone chilling, dark, humorous, and unbelievably twisted. I was hooked from the beginning, and devoured the entire series unbelievably fast. The twists had me on the edge of my seat. The attention to detail that was paid to this series is insane, truly exceptional. The characters are multifaceted, and it was hard not to feel the heartache. It had one hell of an unforgettable punchline. I absolutely loved it, and would recommend it to everyone.
